Lyons council gets ready for new year

The Mayor Lloyd Valentine and Councilor Jessica Ritchie will be sworn in at the Jan.3 meeting of the Lyons City Council. Proceedings begin at 6:30 p.m. The two won their seats in the Nov. 8 election.

Following the swearing in the council will select a Mayor Pro Tem from its membership.

The Mayor Pro Tem presides in the absence of the mayor and acts as mayor when the mayor is unable to perform his or her duties.

The agenda also calls for the council to declare a councilor seat vacant.

The person with the most write-in votes Nov. 8 declined the position.

According to the city charter the council must declare the seat vacant and appoint a new member when interested, eligible citizens apply.

The application process and deadline are expected to be determined at the meeting.

In addition to the council getting itself in order the agenda calls for:

• Salem Seal Coating Estimate action;

• Adoption of Public Contracting Rules by Resolution action; and,

• Action on Updated City Manager Spending Authorization.

The council meets at City Hall, 449 5th St., Lyons. The meetings are open to the public.
