Meeting set on senior center changes

A second meeting on the future of the Canyon Senior Center is set for 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31, at the center, 844 SW First St. in Mill City.

Senior center officials have decided to change the name of the organization to Canyon Service Center.

The goal of the rebranding move, said board member Joanne Olson, “is to reflect the ambitions of being more about service to members and the Santiam Canyon communities and less about age labels. You’ll now see and hear us referred to as the Canyon Service Center, or CSC, but it will take time to make the transition where the name is already in print.”

The meeting will include dessert and discussion, Olson said. This is the second meeting center organizers have held to discuss plans for the future. A volunteer planning group working on the project met for the first time on Wednesday, Dec. 7.

“It is extremely important that the CSC’s future be built on sustainable plans, ones supported by people who live and work here,” Olson said.
