In Memoriam: Keith Kreger (Oct. 11, 1944 – March 9, 2024)

Keith “Skeeter” Herbert Kreger, 79, died March 9, 2024. He was born Oct. 11, 1944, to Irvin and Mae Kreger in Albany. 

After graduating from Cascade High School, where he was an FFA Alumni, he attended Oregon State University to learn sheep shearing. He had his own business shearing sheep throughout the mid-Willamette Valley. 

Keith was a volunteer firefighter for 42 years, serving Turner Fire Department for 38 years and Stayton Fire Department for four years. He was faithful to St. John Lutheran Church in Salem for 50 years. 

Keith’s hobbies included his love for sheep, the Marion County Lamb and Wool Show, volunteering on numerous boards and having a drink with friends. 

Keith is preceded in death by his parents, Irvin and Mae (Schulz) Kreger; and sister, Twila Domine. He is survived by his children, Mandy Houghton and Philip Kreger; brothers, Wayne and Curtis Kreger; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. 

Services will be held Saturday, March 23, at 10:30 a.m. in Salem at St. John Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that remembrances be made to the Marion County Lamb and Wool Show, PO Box 835, Turner OR 97392.
