Two snowmobilers are safe and sound and back with their families after being rescued Sunday in the Breitenbush area, Marion County Sheriff’s Office officials said Wednesday.
Search and rescue crews were dispatched Sunday night when a call was received advising Marion County deputies that the two snowmobilers, who were not identified, had not returned.
The snowmobilers were found uninjured in several feet of snow, said a press release issued by Marion County.
No names were released and the individuals, who were described as being “from the area,” declined to be interviewed or to comment on the incident.
Marion county deputies were assisted by the dispatchers at the Willamette Valley Communications Center and volunteers with the Linn County Sheriff’s Office snowmobile team.
Marion County officials also released a set of tips for safe snowmobiling. They include: taking a snowmobile safety course, wearing a U.S. DOT-approved helmet, dressing and watching for the weather, taking your phone, sticking to the speed limits, keeping your lights on, scouting your route, avoiding frozen lakes and rivers, don’t drink and ride, insure your snowmobile, ride with others and alert others where you are going.
