Letter to the Editor: Time to treat the causes of homelessness

Seattle spent nearly $1 billion on homelessness, but the number of unsheltered grew. And those running Oregon’s government just allocated 300 million of taxpayers money for 2023 on top of the $89 million spent last year. Which resulted it what gain?

Pouring more money into this sinkhole won’t solve this problem – ever.

These are likely the same folks who voted to legalize hard drugs and defund the police.

They just can’t bring themselves to recognize that drug and alcohol abuse leads to homelessness.

The money would be far better spent on intensive education with graphic examples and personal accounts from recovered addicts; starting in grade school, about the consequences of using drugs and alcohol.
