Albany free fishing day set for June 11

The Kids Fishing Derby returns to Timber Linn Park in Albany on Saturday, June 11. This is the first derby at the lake since 2019. The 2020 and 2021 events were canceled by COVID.

Registration starts at 7 a.m. and fishing gets underway at 7:30. An awards ceremony follows at the conclusion of the day.

The event is free and open to fisher folk from 4 to 12. All skill levels are encouraged and loaner equipment is available. The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is stocking the pond with rainbow trout. Free PowerBait will be available and a free goody bag will be given away to the first 300 kids to register.

Those fishing will receive an official scorecard with event volunteers on hand to measure the fish and sign off on the cards. Kids compete in 4 age brackets for trophies and prizes. Scorecards will be collected at 11 a.m., with winners established for largest fish, smallest fish and most fish. Also, special tagged fish will be part of the stocking. Land one and you could win a rod & reel combo set or other prizes.
