Federal legislators are hosting a listening session on efforts to reauthorize the Farm Bill this Friday, June 2, at Linn-Benton Community College.

The bill, otherwise known as the Agriculture Improvement Act, was passed in 2018 and must be reauthorized after five years. The bill created programs that invest in rural counties, focusing on infrastructure, economic development, workforce training, nutrition and conservation.

The listening session is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at the college Forum (6500 Pacific Boulevard SW, Albany) and members of the public are invited to attend and provide feedback. In particular organizers are hoping to hear from members of the agricultural community including farmers, ranchers, producers and agribusiness owners.

Lawmakers on hand will include Oregon’s own Rep. Andrea Salinas (D) and Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R), as well as Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-Calif.), Rep. David Valadao (R-Calif.), and House Committee on Agriculture Chair Rep. Glenn Thompson (R-Pa.).
