Linn County Sheriff’s Office Log: May 23 –29

May 23

Traffic Stop, 8:09 a.m., SW Cedar Street/SW Second Avenue, Mill City. Driver cited for failure to carry proof of insurance and failure to carry registration card.

Accident, 10:39 a.m., Lyons-Mill City Drive, Lyons. Deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash of a fuel tanker into a tree. Tanker caught fire and the driver succumbed to his injuries. Abandoned and vacant house near the crash caught fire and was destroyed.

Traffic Stop, 4:11 p.m., N Main Street/NW Fourth Avenue, Scio. Driver warned for moving violation.

Noise Disturbance, 4:32 p.m., Hess Road, Scio. Deputy attempted to locate a suspicious person.

Event Detail, 6:49 p.m., Fifth Street, Lyons. Lyons City Council meeting.

Traffic Hazard, 9:07 p.m., Main Street, Lyons. Report of two sheep in the road. The sheep were eventually removed and taken back home by the owner.

Trespass, 9:20 p.m., Meritt Road, Scio. Deputy learned individuals had permission to be on the property and it was a civil issue.

Burglary, 11:01 p.m., Stayton-Scio Road, Scio. Report of a trespass.

DUII, 11:12 p.m., Stayton-Scio Road, Scio. Male, 19, arrested for DUII, reckless driving and tampering with evidence. He was cited and released at Linn County Jail.

May 24

Burglary, 8:38 a.m., Stayton-Scio Road, Scio. Deputies responded to trespassing issue. Issue resolved and other party left.

Traffic Stop, 9:34 a.m., Shilling Drive, Scio. Driver warned for expired registration.

Assist Other Agency, 10:12 a.m., NW First Avenue, Scio. Deputies spoke with DHS regarding investigation.

Traffic Hazard, 10:48 a.m., 10th Street, Lyons. Deputies responded to RV partially on the right of way for property owners. Proper precautions were made.

911 Hang Up, 6:22 p.m., Highway 226, Scio. Deputy spoke to an adult who stated her 3-year-old was playing with the phone.

Disturbance, 10:29 p.m., SW Second Avenue, Scio. Report the female half of an altercation was pushed. Deputies found it was a verbal argument over a phone where the female half tried to grab the phone from the male. No crimes.

May 25

Person Assist, 9:06 a.m., S First Avenue, Mill City. Deputies assisted elderly female with getting medics and making sure she was safe.

Fraud, 9:40 a.m., 14th Street, Lyons. Deputies assisted in investigating out-of-state fraudulent transaction.

Assist Other Agency, 12:15 p.m., SE Fairview Street, Mill City. Deputies assisted Marion County deputies in attempting to locate a wanted felon.

Suspicious Vehicle, 3:40 p.m., 24th Street, Lyons. Male, 54, of Lyons was cited and released for a Linn County Justice Court warrant.

Suspicious Vehicle, 10:17 p.m., Highway 226/Thomas Creek Drive, Scio. Vehicle no longer present.

Phone Harassment, 11:34 p.m., Camp Morrison Drive, Scio. Deputies warned the offender for possible telephonic harassment charges if the unwanted phone contact did not stop.

May 26

Suspicious Vehicle, 12:47 a.m., Cedar Mill Road, Lyons. Trucker sleeping for the night.

Motorist Assist, 7:41 a.m., Stayton-Scio Road, Scio. Small utility truck with a blown tire. Deputy set flares for the truck as it waited for a new tire.

Assist Other Agency, 9:05 a.m., Gilkey Road, Scio. Deputy assisted Sweet Home PD with arrest.

Welfare Check, 1:43 p.m., SE Kingwood Avenue, Mill City. Person calling in a welfare check which has been performed several times and determined to be family attempting to harass a mother. Attempted phone contact with the caller did not go through.

Suspicious Vehicle, 5:42 p.m., Sandner Drive/Cole School Road, Scio. Traffic complaint. Deputy located and talked to the driver.

May 27

Park Patrol, 10:06 a.m., SE Fairview Street, Mill City. RV in Kimmel Park parking area tagged for abandoned vehicle tow.

Accident, 11:03 a.m., Robinson Drive, Scio. Farm truck’s brakes failed while backing up which caused the driver to crash into a ditch. Crash ripped up a chuck of blacktop. 

Phone Harassment, 11:41 a.m., SE Kingwood Avenue, Mill City. Deputies answered questions regarding free speech on social media.

Motorist Assist, 1:40 p.m., Highway 22, Idanha. Motorist asked for assistance getting unstuck from a snow drift. Deputy responded and motorist was gone.

Assist Other Agency, 2:05 p.m., Crackerneck Drive, Scio. Deputies assisted fire department on a fire that was not identified as criminal.

Suspicious Circumstance, 4:40 p.m., SE Hazel Street, Mill City. Owner issued a citation for dog as a public nuisance.

Juvenile Complaint, 9:35 p.m., SW Ivy Street, Mill City. Mother wanted behavior documented for future disciplinary options.

Noise Disturbance, 11:44 p.m., Crackerneck Drive, Scio. Deputy responded to complaint of a car horn going off after the car was on fire. Deputy was able to disconnect the battery.

May 28

Traffic Stop, 8:27 a.m., NW Alder Street, Mill City. Driver cited for driving while suspended violation, driving uninsured and failure to register vehicle.

Traffic Complaint, 10:02 a.m., SE Kingwood Avenue, Mill City. Citizen reported numerous speeding and other moving violations on Kingwood Avenue. Extra patrols will be conducted as time allows.

Traffic Stop, 12:58 p.m., SE Ivy Street/S First Avenue, Mill City. Driver cited for driving while suspended violation.

Trespass, 1:42 p.m., Karnosh Road, Scio. Individuals warned for trespass after going onto private property to access creek.

Traffic Stop, 2:01 p.m., NW Second Avenue/NW Santiam Blvd., Mill City. Driver warned for improper display, speed.

Trespass, 5:24 p.m., N Ruby Loop, Scio. Deputies unable to locate suspect.

Disturbance, 10:32 p.m., SE Second Avenue, Mill City. Female said it was a verbal argument only. No crimes observed.

May 29

Dog Complaint, 8:36 a.m., Robinson Drive, Scio. Report of dog in the road. Dog was gone when deputy arrived.

Animal Complaint, 10:48 a.m., S Ruby Loop, Scio. Wandering cows unable to be located by deputy.

Runaway, 5:54 p.m., Sixth Street, Lyons. Deputies documented a frequent juvenile runaway as requested by their parents.

Motorist Assist, 6:37 p.m., Highway 22, Idanha. Vehicle stuck on 2067. Driver self-rescued before deputy arrived.

Traffic Stop, 8:14 p.m., Lyons-Mill City Drive, Lyons. Driver warned for no front plate.

Recovered/Returned Person, 9:03 p.m., Gray Pine Street, Lyons. Deputies located a runaway juvenile and were able to place them with nearby family.
