Gates looking to fill council vacancy

Reporter for The Canyon Weekly

Gates councilor Patrick Rahm has resigned for personal reasons and the city has begun the process of replacing him.

Notice has gone out, and the council and Mayor Ron Evans will be reviewing applications before voting on Rahm’s replacement. Rahm’s term ends Jan. 16, 2025.

Key requirements necessary for applicants include:

•The individual must have been a resident of Gates for the past 12 months.

•The individual must be a registered voter in Gates for the past 9 months.

Interested parties should submit a letter of interest to the Gates City Hall at 101 Sorbin Ave. W, Gates, OR 97346. Applicants should indicate why they are interested in serving on the City Council. For more information contact City Hall at 503-897-2669.

Councilors in Gates, similar to those in other small communities, also serve as de facto department heads with “commissioner” responsibilities for city functions such as parks, water, streets, sewers and sanitation. It was unclear at presstime what portfolio the new councilor would take over.
