Find a painted rock; win a prize from SOCC

Contributing writer for The Canyon Weekly

Get snuggly warm  and venture out to find two rocks hidden daily in Mill City as part of Santiam Outreach Community Center’s Christmas happenings.

SOCC, along with its Salem partner ROCC, will host the “12 Days of Christmas” starting Dec. 1 and running until Dec. 23. The scope of the event is to find two painted rocks – one for an adult, the other for a child – hidden per day during business hours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday somewhere in Mill City.

A hint will be given each morning sharply at 8:30 by KYAC 90.1 FM community radio. The hint will also be posted on SOCC’s Facebook page. The finders must bring the rocks to SOCC by 4 p.m. to receive their gift, one per rock.

Organizers agree they are looking forward to giving back to community members who supported SOCC for the last four years.

“Such a wonderful want to start off the Christmas Season with a gift to the community,” according to the North Santiam Chamber of Commerce event announcement. “Santiam Outreach Community Center, yay you!”

“What a nice idea,” echoed Tammy Beggs after reading about the event on Facebook. Barbara Sanders followed with, “Love this idea!”

SOCC answers, “From everyone at SOCC, we wish you all a Merry Christmas!”

Additionally, ROCC-OUT to Storybook Land, a family-friendly event for all ages, will take place noon – 4 p.m. in Albany. Transportation will be provided. Arrive at SOCC by 11:45 a.m.

To sign up for ROCC-OUT or for more information on the rock-finding event, call 971-332-5676 or email [email protected].

More information on the Center, including a monthly calendar and hours, is on Facebook. SOCC is located at 280 NE Santiam Blvd. Drop-In hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
