Contributing writer for The Canyon Weekly

The last Art Mart of the season is coming up!

Doors open at 10 a.m. and close at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 20 in Mill City for people to peruse the works of local artists and crafters. The June event has been cancelled, and the new season will start Sept. 2 and will always be on the first Saturday of the month.

“Not only will people display and sell their arts, but many will be demonstrating how they do it, and in some cases, teach us how they do it,” said Ken Cartwright, speaking for Santiam Hearts to Arts, sponsors of the event.

According to Cartwright, no arts and crafts made abroad and imported will be displayed.

“All crafts and arts are locally made and sold at Art Mart,” he said.

Admission to the public is free, and lots of free parking is available. Vendor space is limited to artisans on a first-come, first-served basis, Cartwright said.

“We are taking applications for the few openings left,” he said.

To request a vendor application, email Cartwright at [email protected] or call him at 503-897-6397 and leave a message.

“Please be sure to leave your phone number,” he said.

Vendors load in at 9 a.m. and are asked to stay until closing. No pets or alcohol are allowed.

Art Mart is held inside the newly renovated Stewart’s Hall/Odd Fellows building at 158 SW Broadway, just across the bridge.

“Please come and say hello and do some shopping,” Cartwright said.

Coffee and water will be available.
