Ready. Set. Decorate those golf carts

A Disney-themed parade of ATVs and golf carts will take place during this year’s Fireworks over the Lake celebrations held July 1-2 in Detroit.

Sponsored by the Detroit Lake Recreational Area Business Association, parade entrants will line up at 2 p.m. on July 2 at Detroit City Park. The parade starts at 3 p.m. and travels through town to return to the park an hour later.

Children, animals, bikes and golf carts are welcome to enter. The suggested entry fee is $20.

Prizes will be given to the top three vehicles, so deck out your vehicle in your best Disney – Star Wars, Pixar, Marvel and more – and join in this fun event. Entrants can provide their own candy to be tossed out to spectators along the parade route. Three volunteer judges are also needed to help decide who wins. 

According to Ordinance No. 236, drivers of ATV and golf carts must follow city regulations of face a $250 fine per violation.

An operator must be 16 or older, hold a valid driver’s license in good standing and a valid ATV education card, not exceed 20 mph on city streets or drive in a negligent manner that could endanger or cause injury or death to a person, including the driver, or damage to property. Drivers must also comply with traffic laws and signs.

All riders must be secured with a safety belt or harness if the vehicle was equipped with one when manufactured. Riders under 18 must wear a Department of Transportation approved helmet with chin strap fastened while the ATV is under way. 

Driver are also required to meet the financial responsibility for liability for any injury or damage caused by an ATV or golf cart.
