Detroit Fishing Derby returns to its roots

The Detroit Fishing Derby is returning to its original in-person, three-day format for 2022.

The much-anticipated fishing deby is an annual family event hosted in Detroit. The lake is stocked with thousands of rainbow trout, 10 of which are tagged for cash prizes.

Prizes are awarded for first, second and third place for largest fish caught by an adult and largest fish caught by a youth age 13 and under. There will also be a grand prize drawing for adults and youth. Hundreds of prizes will be awarded.

Adult entry fee is $20 plus online registration fee. Entry for youth age 13 and under is $15 plus online registration fee. Register at detroitlakeoregon.org.

The derby runs 6 a.m. – 4 p.m. May 13 – 14, and 6 a.m. – 2 p.m. May 15. The prize ceremony is at 3 p.m. Sunday, and participants must be present to win.
