Enjoy free fishing this weekend

Make fishing part of your Presidents’ Day Weekend plans and bring a friend, too. Everyone can fish, clam and crab for free in Oregon Feb. 19-20.

No fishing/shellfish licenses or tags (including a Combined Angling Tag or Columbia River Basin Endorsement or Two-Rod Validation) are required those two days.

Both Oregon residents and nonresidents can fish, clam and crab for free.

All other fishing regulations apply including closures, bag limits and size restrictions. See the Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations at https://www.eregulations.com/oregon

Check the Recreation Report at https://myodfw.com/recreation-report/fishing-report for best fishing opportunities that weekend and for any in-season regulation changes (especially if you plan to fish for salmon, steelhead or sturgeon as regulations often change during the season).

Best bets for this time of year are usually winter steelhead, stocked trout and ice fishing. Crabbing might also be good as crabs are moving back into estuaries due to the dry weather.

Always check ODA’s Recreational Shellfish page before clamming or crabbing to check for any biotoxin-related closures https://www.oregon.gov/ODA/programs/FoodSafety/Shellfish/Pages/Default.aspx.
