Aumsville woman arrested for alleged horse abuse

An Aumsville woman has been arrested for allegedly beating a horse with a whip. Authorities are seeking information regarding similar instances of alleged abuse.

Geneva Marie Boston, 28, was arrested by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office after video of the alleged incident was leaked to NW Horse Report on Sept. 4.

The video depicts a woman whipping a horse repeatedly on the back and face for around 90 seconds. The woman does not give any commands to the horse during this time. Oregon law allows the use of whips in proper equestrianship, but if used for no apparent purpose it is considered criminal abuse.

Deputies with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 9300 block of Smith Road SE and arrested Boston for aggravated animal abuse. She was booked into the Marion County Jail. According to NW Horse Report she was released on her own recognizance Sept. 6 with orders to return to court Oct. 4.

Those with information about this or other alleged abuse are asked to contact Detective Jeremy Schwab, 503-930-6294 or [email protected].
