Outreach center celebrating with resource fair

Reporter for The Canyon Weekly

The Santiam Outreach Community Center in Mill City will host a fourth anniversary celebration and resource fair on Saturday, July 29.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the center, at 280 N Santiam Blvd. (Highway 22).

Those wishing to attend can drop in at any time. There will be food and music and information from a number of agencies and groups that work with the center and its Salem-partner, the Recovery Outreach Community Center (ROCC).

The Santiam facility (SOCC) opened Aug. 1, 2019, in a partnership between ROCC and the Mid-Willamette Valley Community Action-ARCHES project.

The two organizations saw a need for a local resource/community center, as well as mental health and addiction support in the Santiam Canyon. The drop-in center model gives individuals a safe space to be out of the elements and  meet other community members, and access resources.

SOCC offers peer support, recovery and support groups, activities such as art, puzzles and yoga, along with hygiene kits and blankets as well as free mailboxes. Anyone in need of support is welcome and all services are free.

Support groups that work with the SOCC include those tackling anxiety and depression, wellness and recovery, Alcoholics Anonymous and Dual Diagnosis Anonymous for those experiencing mental health and addiction issues.
