Legal Matters: Former Lyons woman accused of $31K elder fraud

A Portland-area woman is facing local charges for allegedly defrauding her elderly in-laws while they lived together in Lyons, according to court records.

Trina Renee Geddes, 61, of Milwaukie, was charged April 2 in Linn County Circuit Court after allegedly stealing more than $31,000 from her husband’s parents, both in their 80s at the time.

Charging documents said the alleged offenses occurred between September of 2020 and February of 2023 when Geddes acted as a caregiver for the victims. Geddes allegedly used her access to the victim’s personal information to steal cash and to use the victim’s finances for purposes other than caregiving, according to court records.

Geddes was notified of the pending charges March 11 and at that time was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victims. She was arraigned April 3 on charges of first-degree theft, first-degree criminal mistreatment, two counts of ID theft, and three counts of aggravated first-degree theft.

If convicted, she faces up to 10 years in prison on her highest counts.

Following arraignment, Geddes was booked and released from the Linn County Jail with orders to have no contact with the victims and to consume no intoxicants. She is due back in court May 6 for a status check hearing before Judge Rachel Kittson-MaQatish.
