Marion County Lamb & Wool Fair opens Saturday

Contributing writer for The Canyon Weekly

The 84th annual Marion County Lamb & Wool Show has something for everyone. The show has promoted wool and lamb producers with a focus on youth and is a nonprofit, annual family and community event that has taken place in the city of Turner on the first Saturday in June since 1937.

It’s a “day of fun with 4-H and FFA events with breeding project animals, wool animals and market lambs,” said Jula Galvin, spokesperson. “The show also includes craft vendors, food vendors, a silent auction, and award recognition for two scholarships for local graduates.”

The Turner Garden and Flower Club will be on hand to answer questions and talk to people about its 100th year of supporting the Turner community. A flower show will take place in the Turner Elementary School gymnasium.

According to Galvin, the day will start with show classes for youth under 10, including Most Beautiful Lamb, Young Herdsman and Young Market Lamb.

All events are held from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Turner Elementary School. Weigh-in and registration of show lambs begins at 7:30 a.m. The show closes at 3:30 p.m. Admission and parking is free.

“The city of Turner also hosts a city celebration that day with a variety of activities, including a Fireman’s Breakfast and a parade at 11 a.m.,” Galvin said.

The coloring contest is still on this year. Bring your completed creation to be displayed the day of the show in the barn. Downloadable coloring contest pages and applications for all events are available online at . A full schedule of the day’s events are also on the website.
