Lions Club awards $12K in scholarships

The Mill City Lions Club awarded a record $12,000 in scholarships to 15 Santiam High seniors at the school’s annual Awards Dessert.

“The number of scholarships awarded doubled our previous record,” according to Club President Steve Dougherty. “Our interview committee was amazed by the number and quality of this year’s applicants.”

Most of the scholarship funds are raised at the club’s February Sweethearts Dinner. “Our donors pay hundreds of dollars for a pie because they know that 100 percent of the funds raised goes toward our charitable causes,” said Dougherty.
