The Scio and Santiam football squads both were represented well on the all-league squads selected by league coaches.
Scio, which finished 5-4 overall and 3-4 in Special District 2, earned 10 spots on the all-star squad, while Santiam, 5-4 overall and 3-3 in the Tri-River Conference, came home with eight selections.
Scio placed two players on the second team, running back Cody Roofener and defensive back Jaden Franklin. Earning honorable mention for the Loggers were Kyle Ennis (tight end and defensive line), Jackson Braa (defensive line), Tyson Weitman (defensive line), Jett LeFeber (linebacker), Bryan Parazoo (linebacker) Roofener (linebacker) and Tim Boehme (kicker).
Santiam earned two first-team Tri-River slots, defensive lineman Nolan Ohrt and linebacker Trenton Stafford. Gage Twede and Sean Brewster of the Wolverines both were two-way second-teamers, Tweede at wide receiver and defensive back and Brewster in both the offensive and defensive lines. Ort earned honorable mention at tight end, along with offensive lineman Logan Hayes.
Cross country: Santiam and Scio both placed girls runners in the top 45 at the Class 3A-2A-1A state cross country meet Nov. 5 at Lane Community College in Eugene. Averie Peterson of Santiam finished 43rd in 21:36.3, while Athena Lau of the Loggers was 45th in 21:38.9.
Winter season: The next cycle of high school sports, including basketball, wrestling and swimming, is ready to get underway. Monday, Nov. 14 is the first practice day authorized by the OSAA. The first contest day is Nov. 30.
