Bluegrass benefit concert this Sunday

KYAC Community Radio will host a benefit concert this Sunday afternoon to benefit the Oregon Bluegrass Association.

“Our good friends, the Corral Creek band from the Sherwood/Tualatin area, will be our host band for this special matinee,” said Ken Cartwright, KYAC manager/producer. “Corral Creek has been playing together for over 25 years and know how to put the fun in bluegrass music.”

Leader of the five-piece band, Ron Taylor, has a keen sense of humor that he applies to his music, Cartwright said.

“Guitar, mandolin, banjo, fiddle and bass drive this fine band, and the stories Ron adds to the music and fun,” he said. “A fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon and a good cause.”

Music will raise the rafters from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 6 at Stewart’s Hall, 158 SW Broadway, Mill City. The concert will benefit the association that provides grants to needy and deserving young musicians. The association also helps acquire teachers, instruments, and creates recordings for student development in bluegrass music.

Performing around the Northwest, Corral Creek combines homespun humor and dialog with each performance. The band’s play list includes bluegrass standards, Oregon tunes, original tunes about life experience, comedy tunes, and as noted, a few good stories.

According to Taylor, their music has entertained folks at the Oregon Bluegrass Association Gospel Show, the High N’ Dry Bluegrass festival in Bend, the Eastside Bluegrass Series in Portland, the Tygh Valley Bluegrass Jamboree, The George Washington Coffee House music series, and many years of season openers at the Butteville Store, church services, weddings, funerals and community festivals.

“It’s always a family show including sing-a-longs, humorous stories, and good times had by all,” Taylor said.

Suggested ticket prices at the door are $20 per person but can be purchased on a sliding scale. This is a no-reservation benefit with general seating. CDs will be available at the concert.

“Come out and be a part of the fun and effort to help young people get involved with playing this fun, original American music,” Cartright said. “Please bring your children as this is an all-ages event.”
