In Memoriam: Paul Richard Freeman (May 3, 1953 – Dec. 19, 2023)

On May 3rd, 1953, Richard and Barbara Freeman became parents to Paul Richard Freeman in Bozeman, Montana.  He joined an older brother, Earnest, and a sister, Esther. Paul along with the family picked summer crops, fished, and swam in the river.  

Paul played baseball, basketball, and most importantly football with his Santiam team winning the 1971 Oregon state championship.

Paul played the coronet, piano, and sousaphone. He also took voice lessons and sang a high tenor.

Paul started serving as a Youth Minister at Garden Grove Christian Church in Salem, Oregon.  He also spent a summer in Brazil as a Wycliffe Translator’s support personnel building a “kitchen”.  He graduated from Northwest Christian College in June 1977 with a BA in Theology.  Later he received his Master of Divinity from Phillips University in 1982. He served in pastorates in Ogden, Utah, Oklahoma, Missouri, and California.

Paul was married to Wilma Knight and they adopted a daughter, Suzanne.  Wilma is now deceased. 

He is survived by his aunt Joretta, his sister Esther (Keith Woodcock), his daughter Suz Beasley (Shaunda), and grandchildren Mia and Oliver Destfino.  He also has three stepchildren, and a former wife, Laura Jackson. He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Barbara Freeman, and his older brother Earnest. More than 30 cousins also mourn his loss.
