Stayton High hosts girls basketball camps

New Stayton High girls basketball coach Tal Wold is hosting a pair of hoops camps this month. The camps are from 3 to 4:15 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 22 and Sunday, Oct. 29 at Stayton High.

The free camps will be run by Wold, who is in his first year with the Eagles’ girls program. Wold moved to Stayton from Silverton where he led the Foxes to a state Class 5A tournament title as well as runner-up and third-place finishes. Earlier in his career Wold coached the Stayton boys.

The camp is open to girls from third through eighth grades and, Wold said, “will cover fundamentals and skills that will help you this coming winter.”

Included will be a review of shooting, ball-handling and other basketball skills. The goal is to help Santiam Youth Sports and middle-school players get ready for the coming season, Wold said.

The camp is free and also will accept donations to support Stayton girls basketball.

Players can register at the door or by emailing Wold at [email protected].

Include in your email the player’s name, grade and a phone number where you can be reached.
