Scholarships available to high school seniors

City of Lyons Scholarship – Applicants must be a graduating senior who has lived in the city limits of Lyons for the past five years and complete a 500-word essay telling the committee how they will use the money, what are their education goals and plans after high school and how they will make a difference in the world. Judging criteria will be subject relevancy, proper use of grammar and clarity. Submit applications, available at cityoflyons.org, to Lyons City Hall by 3 p.m. April 14. Questions: 503-859-2167.

Clyde E. Golden Scholarship 2023 – Available to Santiam High seniors and alumni attending college. Recipients will be based on career choice, scholarship, leadership, participation in school activities, service to the community and financial need. Applicants must have Mill City Fire Department cadet status. Golden was a charter member of the Mill City Volunteer Fire Department who served 43 years as a firefighter. Applications are due by April 15, and are available at the Santiam High counseling office or the fire station. Questions: 503-897-2390.

Brent Strohmeyer Memorial Scholarship – Available to any graduating student or college student who is a resident of Linn, Marion or Polk counties or had senior portraits taken at Stro’s Photography. Three recipients will be choses based on financial need and automotive interest. Applicants must have a GPA of 2.5 or better and prove an interest in the automotive hobby or enroll in automotive classes in a community college, trade school or higher education program. Applications are due April 15, and are available at www.stros.biz/brent_memorial.asp.

Stayton Area Rotary Scholarship – Stayton Rotary will be awarding scholarships to seniors attending Santiam, Scio, Regis and Stayton high schools. Selection is based on academic and extra-curricular achievements. Applications must be received by 5 p.m. May 1. Applications are available at https://staytonarearotary.org/supporting-youth/.

Linn County Youth Livestock Auction Scholarship – Scholarship recipients must be a 4-H or FFA high school senior and be involved in at least one of the following market species: swine, goats, beef, sheep, rabbits or poultry during the 2023 Linn County Fair or have previous involvement with the Linn County Youth Livestock Auction. An award of up to $3,500 may be awarded each year. Applications are due by 5 p.m. May 5 to the Linn County Extension Office. Application is at lcyla.com/scholarhsips. Linn County Extension Association Legacy Scholarhship – Two Legacy Scholarships of $1,000 are available to Linn County high school seniors. The scholarship is based on residency in the geographical areas served by Linn County Extension, the applicant’s financial need, GPA of 2.75 or higher, involvement in 4-H or other Extension programs, community involvement and/or work experience.
