In Memoriam: Diane Johnson (Nov. 10, 1934 – May 22, 2022)

Diane Nobuko Johnson, 87, died May 22, 2022.

She was born Nov. 10, 1934, to Seishin Yamada and Yoshi Shimabukuro in Saipan. She grew up with four brothers and one sister; Seizen Yamada, Masakatsu Yamada, Masahiko Yamada, Seiko Yamada, and Katsuko Kimmy Cornell. Her family eventually relocated to Okinawa Japan, where she met her husband Robert Ernest Johnson, who was serving in the Air Force. 

Diane and Robert were married on June 26, 1962, at the American Embassy in Naha, Okinawa. They spent 57 happy years together, living in various parts of the United States together from Alaska to Montana. They settled  down on a piece of land outside of Stayton in 1974, where they built their beautiful home. 

Diane had three children, David Masataka Yamada, Stephen Johnson, and Raymond Johnson. 

Diane had many hobbies that she enjoyed including sewing, embroidering, farming, cooking, gardening, and raising all kinds of animals. She enjoyed going to church every Sunday and wanted to serve God anyway she could. She was a giver. She loved spending time with her family. 

Diane is survived by her husband; brother, Seiko Yamada; sons, Stephen Johnson, David Masataka Yamada (Claire Mayumi Yamada), and Raymond E. Johnson (Brandi Morgan); grandchildren, Lillian Minori Yamada, Rachel Miyuki Yamada, Keary Morgan, Ashton Johnson, and Shannon Yardley JR; and great-grandchild, Grace Diane Yardley. 

A viewing was held June 2 at Weddle Funeral Home in Stayton. Her service will be at 11 a.m. June 3 at New Life Foursquare Church in Stayton. All are welcome.
