Linn County Sheriff’s Office Log: May 10 – 16

May 10

Theft, 8:56 a.m., SE Kingwood Avenue, Mill City. Unknown persons used a credit card of an elderly victim to pull $700 off the card.

Shots Heard, 11:24 a.m., Cedar Avenue/SE Church Street, Idanha. Deputies responded. No gun fire, but a trash pile burning, causing small explosions.

Traffic Complaint, 1:43 p.m., NW Fourth Avenue/N Main Street, Scio. Caller reported the vehicle ahead of them was brake-checking. Deputy was unable to locate the suspect vehicle.

Suspicious Circumstance, 4:21 p.m., SW Kingwood Avenue, Mill City. Caller had questions regarding his adult daughter running away to another state.

Theft, 6:25 p.m., NW Ash Street, Scio. Stolen fish finder.

May 11

Suspicious Vehicle, 8:45 a.m., Cedar Mill Road, Lyons. Person located sleeping in a vehicle near the abandoned Freres Plant 4. No crimes suspected. Person left at deputies’ request.

Traffic Stop, 9:13 a.m., SE Kingwood and SE Third avenues, Mill City. Driver cited for 40 MPH in 25 MPH zone.

Traffic Stop, 9:32 a.m., SE Kingwood and SE Third avenues, Mill City. Driver warned for speed.

Harassment, 9:50 a.m., SE Hazel Street, Mill City. A fake Facebook account sent the caller lewd pictures and asked to be sent gift cards. Deputies assisted the caller in blocking the account and educating the caller on potential future scams involving gift cards. Caller did not send any money to the fake account.

Traffic Stop, 11:45 a.m., NE Santiam Blvd./NE Alder Street, Mill City. Driver cited for 60 MPH in 40 MPH zone.

Animal Complaint, noon, SW Douglas Street, Mill City. Dog was hit by a vehicle. Deputies investigated and found two dogs were running at large before one got hit. Owner was given the information to contact the responsible party.

Disturbance, 1:51 p.m., NE Santiam Blvd., Mill City. MWVCAA reported a male yelled at staff after not giving the information needed to submit an application. Male was trespassed for a month by request of the business.

Warrant, 1:51 p.m., NW Clayton Place, Scio. Male, 34, of Scio cited for failure to appear changes out of Lebanon Justice Court.

Dog Complaint, 3:42 p.m., Crabtree Drive, Scio. Dog owner cited for dog at large.

Police Officer Hold, 5:07 p.m., Lyons. Female ingested 10 Oxycontin and two heart pills to try and kill herself. Female was transported to Salem Hospital.

Traffic Stop, 6:04 p.m., Highway 226, Scio. Driver cited for 80 MPH in 55 MPH zone and no operator’s license.

May 12

Accident, 1:30 a.m., Lyons-Mill City Drive, Lyons. Non-injury crash. Deputies made contact with all parties involved.

Stolen Vehicle, 9:21 a.m., NW River Road, Mill City. Vehicle was last seen in the owner’s driveway at 2 p.m. May 11. Deputies investigating.

Accident, 9:32 a.m., Stayton-Scio Road/Ridge Drive, Scio. Driver hydroplaned on roadway water and lost control, striking a utility pole. Driver was transported to Santiam Hospital to be checked.

Trespass, 10:53 a.m., SW Parkside Drive, Mill City. Deputies searched abandoned house and found no one living or staying inside. Deputies to conduct extra patrols to catch trespassers.

Suspicious Circumstance, 11:36 a.m., Lyons-Mill City Drive/Mowitch Street, Lyons. Caller had information about a suspicious person.

Theft, 11:53 a.m., SW First Avenue, Mill City. Caller reported his vehicle was entered overnight.

Counter Traffic, 3:29 p.m., Main Street, Lyons. Victim wanted to give a more detailed interview and offer documents to have added to the case file.

Suspicious Vehicle, 4:36 p.m., Fishermans Road/Shoreline Drive, Lyons. Suspicious vehicle thought to be stolen was seen beyond a private gate. Deputies learned the vehicle was not stolen but were unable to locate the owner.

May 13

Traffic Stop, 12:01 a.m., NW Alder Street, Mill City. Driver cited for driving while suspended and driving without insurance.

Traffic Stop, 12:28 a.m., S First Avenue, Mill City. Driver warned for equipment violation.

Suspicious Vehicle, 3:16 a.m., SW Second Place/SW Beech Street, Scio. Report of a suspicious vehicle cruising a neighborhood. Vehicle gone upon deputies’ arrival.

Fraud, 8:23 a.m., Ninth Street, Lyons. Caller reported the same scammer was making threats of harm about her credit. Caller was again given information on how to protect herself financially to prevent ID theft and other fraud. 

Accident, 8:43 a.m., Fifth Street, Lyons. Two-vehicle crash involving a parked vehicle. Driver cited for careless driving.

Suspicious Circumstance, 9:54 a.m., Twin Meadows Road, Idanha. Deputy responded to the report of a SOS activation from a vehicle. Deputy was unable to locate any vehicle in distress. Side roads had snow blocking them.

Identify Theft, 8:08 p.m., Elm Street, Lyons. Deputy investigated a report of fraud. Victim is reportedly out $27,000.

Weapon Offense, 11:57 p.m., NW Santiam Blvd., Mill City. Male, 53, of Mill City arrested for possession of weapons by certain felons. He was transported and lodged at Linn County Jail.

May 14

Domestic Disturbance, 1:44 a.m., Highway 22, Idanha. Deputies responded to a 911 open line and were unable to locate.

Fraud, 7:24 a.m., Shelburn Drive, Scio. Caller reported cyber crime fraud.

Forest Timber Patrol, 8:49 a.m., Thomas Creek Drive, Scio. Deputy patrolled Weyerhaeuser property.

Narcotics Offense, 11:30 a.m., Hungry Hill Drive, Scio. Deputy retrieved drug paraphernalia the caller found while cleaning out a house. Deputy seized it for destruction.

Missing Persons, 2:07 p.m., Miller Cemetery Road, Scio. Missing person contacted caller while taking the report. Everything was good.

Suspicious Vehicle, 5:46 p.m., NE First Avenue, Scio. Driver was homeless and staying in his van at the park during the day but moved to private property at night.

Trespass, 7:24 p.m., Robinson Drive, Scio. Male, 26, of Marion County was arrested for Theft II and three counts of Criminal Trespass II. He was issued a criminal citation in lieu of custody.

Noise Disturbance, 10 p.m., N Main Street, Scio. Deputy checked area for loud music complaint.

Noise Disturbance, 10:20 p.m., N Main Street/NE Third Avenue, Scio. Deputies responded to a fireworks complaint.

Suicidal Subject, 10:34 p.m., Mill City. Juvenile female attempted self-harm by taking 15-20 Aleve. Female was transported to Salem Hospital.

May 15

Suspicious Vehicle, 1:45 a.m., Jefferson-Scio Drive, Scio. Deputies observed a suspicious vehicle on the side of the road. Vehicle was unoccupied but deputies were able to locate the owner.

Suspicious Circumstance, 8:56 a.m., Main Street, Lyons. Assisted Lyons Fire Department for unresponsive female. Female was transported.

Suspicious Circumstance, 2:35 p.m., Highway 22, Idanha. Deputies responded to a report of bones found near Highway 22 on USFS land. Bones were confirmed to be of an animal.

Suspicious Circumstance, 4:17 p.m., Camp Morrison Drive, Scio. Deputy spoke to a citizen concerned about people shooting exploding targets on BLM land.

May 16

Prowler, 3:24 a.m., Sixth Street, Lyons. Reported prowler. Deputies were unable to locate.

Prowler, 4:28 a.m., Ash Street, Lyons. Reported prowler. Deputies were unable to locate.

Unauthorized Vehicle Entry, 7:48 a.m., Main Street, Lyons. Person was seen on video leaving a driveway in Lyons. Nothing was believed to be taken from the vehicles at the residence.

Criminal Mischief, 12:13 p.m., Gilkey Road, Scio. Caller’s window was damaged from a kicked up rock from a lawn mower.

Theft, 1:17 p.m., Camp Morrison Drive, Scio. Caller reported financial fraud from a family member/employee for his business. The dollar amount for all irregularities may be over $200K.

Accident, 4:06 p.m., Lyons-Mill City Drive, Lyons. Single-vehicle, non-injury crash. Tire marks and driver’s statements indicated the power steering failed, causing the vehicle to crash through a neighboring yard.
