Last call for Hall of Fame nominees

Nominations for the Santiam Canyon School District (SCDC) Hall of Fame are being accepted until June 17.

For the last 18 years, the school district has annually held the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in November to honor those who have had a major impact to the district in a positive manner.

The Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony inducts three to five individuals and a former team before a large crowd at the school commons.  The ceremony recognizes recipients with a dinner and a presentation of their accomplishments. Recipients are awarded a plaque or medal, and their picture is displayed in the gymnasium for many read and admire.

There are four categories for nominations: former outstanding student, former outstanding staff member (certified or classified), outstanding school district supporter/booster who may or may not have worked for the district but made significant contributions above and beyond the average person/business, and former outstanding team.

The SCSD Hall of Fame committee takes nominations yearly. There are several guidelines the committee uses to select recipients.

Individual former student and staff nominees should be at least three years removed from the district, unless deceased. The nominee’s accomplishments should be something extraordinary or something extra-special which has brought honor and/or recognition to the district through their actions.

Also considered are nominees who may have overcome some extraordinary situations to achieve positions of leadership, business person, etc., or have significantly influenced others in a positive manner.

Former teams should have not only been successful, but may have overcome unique obstacles, influenced future programs, and were able to bring a special enthusiasm throughout the Canyon, and to Santiam Canyon alumni and followers throughout the country.

All nominations submitted should have accompanying information to verify their accomplishments or contributions, such as letters, newspaper articles, awards received, pictures, etc. The committee looks at all nominees and then selects those to be inducted at the Nov. 12 ceremony.

All nominations will be reviewed. If a nomination is submitted, but not selected, it is not necessary to resubmit their name the next year as all nominations get reviewed annually, but you are welcome to add additional information to help the selection committee. Also, leave contact information for the nominee so they can be easily contacted if selected.

Nominations should be submit to: Hall of Fame Committee, Santiam Jr/Sr HS, PO Box 199, Mill City, OR 97360, or by email to David Plotts, [email protected].  For further information, call 503-897-2311 or 503-897-2321.
