Several scholarship opportunities available for Santiam seniors

Mill City Lions Scholarship

The Mill City Lions Scholarship is open to all students graduating or earning a certificate of attainment or a certificate of attendance who live in the Santiam Canyon School District service area. The award can be used for a wide range of post-secondary opportunities including job training programs, certificate programs offered by businesses, certificated community college programs, community college and university degree pathways. Applications are due May 5.

Clyde E Golden Scholarship

The $600 Clyde E Golden Scholarship is available to Santiam High seniors and alumni attending college. The award was established in memory of Clyde E Golden, a Mill City volunteer firefighter, who died in the line of duty. Selection of scholarship winners is based on scholarship, leadership, participation in school activities, service to the community, attitude towards education, an interview, essay, resourcefulness, finanical need and fire department cadet status. Applications must be completed by April 22.

Brent Strohmeyer Memorial Scholarship

The Brent Strohmeyer Memorial Scholarship is a $400 scholarship for any graduating senior who is a resident of Linn, Marion or Polk counties or had their senior portraits taken at Stro’s Photography with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Applicants must prove an interest in the automotive hobby or enroll in automotive classes in an institution or higher education, including community colleges or trade schools. Recipients will be chosen based on finanical need and automotive interest. Applications are due April 15.

Oregon ACTE Scholarship 

Oregon ACTE is offering two, $1,000 scholarships for students heading into (or already enrolled in) a trade or CTE related program. This includes apprenticeship programs, community college CTE programs, certification programs, trade schools (culinary school, cosmetology, etc.). Students can use the funds for items or services needed to be successful in their program, such as child care, safety equipment, tools, tuition, computer and transportation, in addition to tuition expenses. Application deadline is May 1.

Oregon Jaycee Foundation

The Oregon Jaycee Foundation will award up to $5,000 in scholarships to several graduating Oregon high school seniors. The final selection of a recipient will be based on academic excellence, personal accomplishments, leadership qualities and community service. GPA requirement is an unweighted 3.75. City of Lyons Scholarship

The deadline for the City of Lyons scholarship is 3 p.m. April 15. To be eligible, applicants must be a 2022 graduating high school senior, reside with in the city limits of Lyons for the past five years, and complete a 500-word essay. Applications are available on the city of Lyons website, cityoflyons.org, or at City Hall, 449 Fifth St. You can also request an application by emailing [email protected].
